Since Donald Trump revealed the long-threatened reciprocal tariffs, the world’s economy has been walking on eggshells, and the Indonesian rupiah has been steadily weakening in the face of tariffs. Professor Lawrence Loh, Director (Strategy & Policy) at the NUS Centre for Governance and Sustainability, weighs in on how the Indonesian government needs to collaborate with their closest foreign neighbours, as well as the wake-up call for ASEAN to foster a sense of self-reliance within the region by bridging collaboration between ASEAN countries with strong bilateral relations.
