NUS scientists have hit a new milestone, demonstrating a perovskite–organic tandem solar cell with a certified world-record power conversion efficiency of 26.4 per cent, which outperforms the previous benchmark of 24.4 per cent for similar devices. This makes it the highest-performing device of its kind to date. This latest research breakthrough was achieved under the leadership of Assistant Professor Hou Yi, who is a Presidential Young Professor at the NUS College of Design and Engineering.

NUS is redefining arts engagement on campus through the Arts for All framework. Introduced by the Office of Student Affairs in late 2023, the initiative lowers barriers to arts participation and encourages collaboration across disciplines. From student-led performances in unconventional spaces and interdisciplinary productions at the NUS Arts Festival, to co-designed creative hubs like the Living Arts Lab and credit-bearing arts courses, the framework is expanding access and empowering students to shape the arts on their own terms.

People may have come to think of healthy profits as routine in aviation, especially with Singapore Airlines (SIA) making international headlines for the profit-sharing bonuses given to its employees, most recently 7.45 months’ worth. But can this really continue? Associate Professor (Strategy & Policy) Nitin Pangarkar from NUS Business School shares his insights on how three factors may cause long-term prospects of airlines to be weaker than their short-term prospects—an uncertain global economy, the emergence of AI, and uncertainty about the visa policies of the US.
Since Donald Trump revealed the long-threatened reciprocal tariffs, the world’s economy has been walking on eggshells, and the Indonesian rupiah has been steadily weakening in the face of tariffs. Professor Lawrence Loh, Director (Strategy & Policy) at the NUS Centre for Governance and Sustainability, weighs in on how the Indonesian government needs to collaborate with their closest foreign neighbours, as well as the wake-up call for ASEAN to foster a sense of self-reliance within the region by bridging collaboration between ASEAN countries with strong bilateral relations.
