It was a day of celebration for more than 2,100 alumni and friends who gathered for NUS Homecoming on 21 September 2024. From thought-provoking panel discussions to live music and movie screenings, the half-day event organised by the NUS Office of Alumni Relations allowed alumni to rekindle old friendships and forge new connections in a day packed with exciting activities.

Five outstanding professors from NUS—Professor Liu Bin, Professor Ho Teck Hua, Associate Professor Lu Jiong, Associate Professor Daniel Ting Shu Wei, and Assistant Professor Li Qianxiao— received the nation’s highest honours for scientists and engineers in recognition of their outstanding achievements at the President’s Science & Technology Awards organised by the National Research Foundation.

In celebration of International Music Day on 1 October, NUS News spotlights Bali Regional Resonances, a two-week summer immersion programme offered by the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music. Open to all NUS students who have music training and an interest in learning about Balinese arts, the programme takes students on a journey into the world of Balinese music, dance, and theatre and opens their eyes to a different practice and philosophy of the arts.

While the internet offers greater convenience and a wider range of news sources, the spread of false information has become one of the biggest challenges of this century. To counter this, a multidisciplinary NUS research team has embarked on the Information Gyroscope (iGyro) programme, a comprehensive five-year research initiative that seeks to identify and address vulnerabilities in the digital information pipeline, enhance digital resilience among online users, and promote engagement with trustworthy information.
