About T.H.E Dance Company

The Human Expression Dance Company, or T.H.E Dance Company, was founded in September 2008 by artistic director Kuik Swee Boon. Since then, T.H.E has steadily built a strong base of supporters and has performed at most of the important major local arts festivals. As a further testament to its rapid development and popularity, the company has toured Paris, Dubai, Guangzhou, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, Goyang (Korea) and Bytom (Poland) within two years of its establishment.

T.H.E's repertoire is a unique blend of Western contemporary dance styles and Eastern sensibilities. Works in the repertoire tackle themes that are relevant to Singapore's contemporary cultural landscape. These themes are what make T.H.E relevant as a local arts company. The company has also collaborated with artists both local and international including choreographers Boi Sakti (Indonesia), Kim Jae Duk (Korea), Zhang Xiao-Xiong (Taiwan); local musician Darren Ng; Brazillian flim maker Gabriela Tropia and Finnish lighting designer Anna Rouhu.

Kim Jae Duk (Korea)
Associate Choreographer
T.H.E Dance Company

Kim’s works have been described by certain critics as among some of the most attention grabbing, refreshing and innovative. As an artist, he grasps the essence of Korean tradition and delivers it in a way that is easily understood by a contemporary audience. His most acclaimed work to date, Darkness Poomba has received recognition in both Japan and Korea.

Kim’s own company, Modern Table bases itself on interdisciplinary performance that attempts to transgress the borders between traditional genres of dance and music. His other works include Joker’s Blues, Awake and Clocker.

Kim choreographed Bohemian Parody for T.H.E Dance Company during Contact 2010 and he has been appointed as the Resident Choreographer of T.H.E Dance Company in August 2011. Since his appointment he has gone on to create two more works for T.H.E - Re: Ok...But, a full-length work choreographed in collaboration with Kuik Swee Boon, and Hey Man which was featured in Contact 2012.
