Established in 1977, the NUS Chinese Dance is an accomplished dance group with more than 80 members comprising students and a strong alumni. The group is guided by Ms Ding Hong, its Resident Choreographer, who has led the group successfully since 2001. Ding Hong received her degree in Dance Education with distinction from the Beijing Dance Academy. The group is also trained by Mr Zhou Lei.
As a well-established dance group of the CFA, our repertoire ranges from the technically demanding traditional and tribal folk dance to contemporary Chinese dances. Our members develop their technique with us and are also given a chance to hone their performing skills to perfection. We are proud of the fact that while we stay true to traditional Chinese dance forms, we are keen and open to exploring new styles and choreographies in order to continue challenging our dancers to achieve greater heights of performance. The result is often interesting and unusual dance pieces from refreshing new perspectives. Through the different dance forms, we aim to nurture in our dancers a deep appreciation for Chinese dance and enable them to express this appreciation through beautiful yet strong dance steps.
