Now Accepting Applications! Summer School 2009 @ the University of Alberta
Spend up to six weeks at the University of Alberta for an exciting hands-on, cultural and academic education experience in the best part of Canada during the best part of the year. This short but comprehensive summer program will challenge your understanding of Canadian society through a diversity of experiences. Choose courses that merge classroom learning with interactive learning activities and field trips. All academic courses within the Summer School are required programming in UAlberta’s undergraduate degree programs, so Canadian students will be sharing in, and contributing to your learning.

Courses available
Two terms to choose from:
- Spring Semester – May 2 to June 13 2009
- Summer Semester – July 4 to August 15 2009
Two routes to choose from:
- Regular academic credit courses in all disciplines are available. Over 600 courses to choose from.
Eg: Humanities, Tourism, Dance, Economics, Math, Education, etc
- For a more unique credit offerings, choose from 4 multidisciplinary themes offered but you will be limited to taking only specific courses related to the themes. Themes of study offer practical skills development, mini-internships, or hands-on experience in the subject matter.
- Environmental / Conservation Sciences / Forestry Field School
-5 weeks hands-on credit experience in Northern Alberta at UA’s off-campus field school
- Outdoor Education and Leadership (River)
-Students can imagine what the fur traders might have seen in this extended canoe/kayak expedition
- Outdoor Explorations (Mountains)
-Trekking, hiking and ice climbing through the Canadian Rockies
- Canadian and Native Studies
-Courses in Business, History, Anthropology, Tourism, Dance, Political Science, Native Studies, and French among others give students an opportunity to learn about Canadian, Francophone and Aboriginal historical and contemporary societies.

Eligibility
- Proficiency in English language –can be demonstrated by a letter from the home university certifying sufficient English language proficiency or by providing TOEFL scores
- Must present a minimum of 1 year of university coursework (translating to minimum of 24 credits at UAlberta)
- Minimum academic standing of cumulative 2.0 GPA on the 4.0 North American grading scale

Only internally pre-screened applications will be considered for scholarships
Step 1: You will be notified by your faculty on the details of this program + application form + UA scholarship application form. Alternatively, contact your faculty sep coordinator for info & the forms.
Step 2: Please submit your completed application + scholarship forms (by email) to your faculty SEP coordinator for internal screening and consideration for scholarship by the stipulated deadline.
-Deadline for Spring Semester: Fri/February 27
-Deadline for Summer Semester: Fri/April 3
Step 3: You will be pre-selected by your faculty. Successful applicants will be notified to directly apply online at the University of Alberta website as well as making the application fee payment of CDN $ 115 online.
Scholarships & funding
Up to 10 full scholarships valued at CDN $5,000 is available.
Other successful applicants will be considered for partial scholarship valued at CDN $ 2,250
