Mentors' Corner
About Mentors
Start-Up@Singapore mentors are drawn from a large pool of venture capitalists, angel investors, successful entrepreneurs, management consultants, senior business and industry executives. They have skills, expertise, business acumen and experience which would be invaluable to start-up companies. More importantly, their wide networking locally and overseas could be of great help to companies looking for expansion.
Mentors would be volunteers who have the passion, energy and time and have expressed a wish to contribute to the national effort to nurture entrepreneurship in Singapore.
NUS Entrepreneurship Centre will administer the Mentored CEOs Growth Programme by selecting mentors and matching them to Start-Up@Singapore participants who enroll under this Mentoring Programme.
Crieria for Selection of Mentors
- Seasoned entrepreneur, venture capitalist, angel investor, or service professionals who have started their own company and developed it successfully or individuals related to venture creation and development
- Completely altruistic and have a heartfelt commitment to work with teams
- Willingness to impart experiences, knowledge and skills
- Act as "coach" to budding entrepreneurs
Past speakers, mentors & judges of Start-Up@Singapore are especially invited to enrol for the Mentored CEOs Growth Programme.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Advise aspiring entrepreneurs and young CEOs of startup ventures where to focus or just as important, how to avoid wasting time chasing areas that are unlikely to be successful
- Help them avoid potential pitfalls, find holes in business plan
- Give them guidance on how to develop successful ventures
- Bring fresh, independent perspective to a business concept - a perspective grounded in real-world experience
- Help make connections, guide teams to key networks, find customers or start-up capital, brainstorm on possible partnerships
- Evaluate milestones
- Evaluate a team's presentation
- Lend advice on protecting intellectual property, applying for patents and advice on incorporation
- Sometimes invited to join the team
