Abstract

The presentation will be on the circumstance of the birth of earth9.com, the unique dot-com experience, the differences between that experience and the "real-world" business experience, the stages of growth of a young company, the lessons learnt and challenges faced. The presentation will be about 45 mins with 15 mins Q&A.

About the Speaker

Chi Sim manages the earth9 business with responsibility for the growth direction of the company, overseas business expansion as well as investor relations. He is also responsible for the financial management of the company as well as sales activities in key accounts. His former working experience includes the National Computer Board (now Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore) and Microsoft Singapore. At earth9, he has worked in various technical and business related positions. Chi Sim graduated with a bachelor's degree (with Merit) in Computer Science on an accelerated program majoring in Artificial Intelligence from the National University of Singapore, where he was also part of the National Science and Research program. He is currently a member of the Young Entrepreneur Organization (Singapore). He also owns one patent in the area of collaborative information management. Chi Sim is an avid reader and self-professed information junkie. He believes in giving back to the community, and has participated in programs such as a Raleigh expedition in 2001 to help build a school in a remote mountainous valley in Tibet for children of a nomadic community. He is also a member of the Humanitarian Relief Program under the Singapore International Foundation, and is scheduled to complete training by 2003 and be eligible to participate and manage disaster relief programs around the world.
