Abstract

Stephen will share his experience as the entrepreneurial founder of SQLView and what technology start-ups from Singapore are doing to adapt and stay ahead of competition in this world of global competitiveness. He will re-collect his journey and thoughts at his key-turning points.

As the Chairman of SiTF, Stephen will also share with us what SiTF is doing and the thought behind their initatives.


About the Speaker


Stephen Lim, 45, founded SQL View Pte Ltd in 1992 having identified Client-Server Technologies as the next wave of IT Movement. Today, SQL View is a leading pioneer in Knowledge management and electronic record management solutions. SQL View is not Stephen's first experience as en entrepreneur. In 1987, Stephen left Hewlett-Packard Sales Singapore where he worked as a System Engineer and founded Netband Technology Pte Ltd. Netband quickly grew to be the premier Network integrator in the region, with offices in Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Thailand with revenue in excess of $20 million.

In 1993, Stephen was awarded the National Youth Award for his entrepreneurial achievements. The following year, Stephen was awarded as NSman of the year, an award to recognize the top 10 Arm Forces reserve personal for their performance as reservist.

Stephen started his career in Hewlett-Packard where he specializes in Office Automation (OA) and Networking. In addition to his role as a technical system engineer, Stephen was also given the added responsibility of managing Singapore's OA marketing program. In 1985, Stephen was selected as the best system engineer in the Far East region.

Stephen's strength lies with his ability to combine technical know how with business acumen. His ability to recognize market trends and technical winner brings him one step ahead of his competitors. Charismatic and energetic, Stephen provides and vision and leadership that motivates his team towards a common goal.

Stephen holds a Master in Management Science form Imperial College, London University and Bsc in Electronic Engineering from Birmingham University, UK.  Stephen is also the Chairman of the Singapore Infocomm Technology Federation (SiTF) and Immediate Past Chairman of SITF's Singapore Enterprise Chapter.  Stephen also serves as Membership Chairman of the Young President Organisation, Singapore Chapter, Committee member of Finance & IT committee, Sentosa Development Corp.
