Office of Safety, Health & Environment

Introduction

The safety and health division is responsible for facilitating the building of a positive safety, health and environmental culture and learning experience for all NUS staff and students through the adoption of SHE best practices and systems.

This is achieved through the implementation of a safety and health management system across NUS Departments and Faculties (SMS@NUS). This system has been modeled after international standards such as OHSAS 18001:2007 (Occupational health and safety management systems – Requirements) and CWA 15793:2008 (Laboratory biorisk management standard). To ensure NUS staff and students adequately review the hazards and risks for their activities, OSHE has developed safety and health programmes such as biosafety, chemical, radiation, office, etc. There is also promotional and outreach programmes to raise safety awareness and culture levels on campus.

Due to the diverse nature of activities on campus and their arising hazards and risks, OSHE had developed appropriate polices, manuals, programmes to ensure these hazards are effectively managed.
