Winners of Systems Engineering Essay Competition 2012

The competition was jointly organised by Temasek Defence Systems Institute (TDSI) and International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) Singapore Chapter. The annual contest, launched in 2012, was opened to both working professionals and students from local tertiary institutions. Submissions were judged for development of ideas and insights into systems engineering, organisation, clarity and writing ability. We thank our panel of four judges who were involved in the judging process.

Systems Engineering Essay Competition 2012

Temasek Defence Systems Institute (TDSI) and International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) Singapore Chapter are jointly organising the Systems Engineering Essay Competition 2013. This competition aims to raise the profile of systems engineering in Singapore and to encourage authors to explore and expound on a wide range of its applications in Singapore’s context.

We invite working professionals and students who are passionate about systems engineering to participate in this competition. You may choose any of your special interest areas which include, but are not limited to:


  • Defence
  • Education System
  • Energy
  • Environment
  • Health care
  • Public housing
  • Security
  • Transport
  • Water resource management

The focus of the essay is on fresh ideas, proposals and insights on systems engineering in your chosen subject of interest.


Open to Working Professionals and Students

  • Open Category is for working professionals from industry, government and academia
  • Student Category is for students from local tertiary institutions

Essay Submission

Please submit your essays to Ms Janey Chng at tdscywj@nus.edu.sg by 15 October 2012


Essay Judging

Submitted essays will be judged on a range of parameters including clear objective, insight into systems engineering, technical depth, substantiation of concepts, clarity of expression, effective communication of ideas, and references.

Essay must be written and presented in English with up to 5,000 words, in font type Arial/Times New Roman, font size 12.

The judging panel comprises
