In recent years, more people have embarked on the Fire (Financial independence, retire early) journey, which is defined by frugality, extreme savings and investment. While this movement is associated with early retirement, a Fire lifestyle is in fact one that is also low carbon and sustainable. Dr Goh Tian, Research Fellow at the Energy Studies Institute at NUS, highlighted four key aspects that focus on the “saving” portion of the Fire philosophy that are compatible with sustainability.
