Uma JAYARAMAN read English Literature at University of Delhi, India, for her undergraduate and graduate degrees and pursued her doctoral studies in Gender Performance and Diaspora writings as a full-time scholar at the National University of Singapore. She has been an educator in higher education since 1988 and has facilitated lessons on close reading of literary works and literary theory at both undergraduate and graduate levels. She has been a thesis examiner in her area of specialisation and been invited to speak to university students about her research.

In recent years, Uma has taught academic writing in arts and social sciences, creating presentations and workplace communication. She has also worked in teams for course assessment and writing course content.

Uma is also a published creative writer and theatre practitioner.
