Singapore’s only Balinese dance group, Eka Suwara Santi was formed in 2014 by A/P Irving Chan Johnson (NUS Southeast Asian Studies), a topeng dancer and professor. Eka Suwara Santi is derived from the Lontar Widi Sastra, an old Balinese palm-leaf manuscript. Translated, the group’s name means “The Oneness of Beauty and Peace” and is a derivative of the three names of the Hindu gods Brahma (Eka), Siwa (Iswara) and Wisnu (Santi). They perform throughout the year and conducts classes and workshops in Balinese dance and culture.
