Drawing inspiration from the spectrum of colours and moods in light, NUS Symphony Orchestra brings you Radiance of Hope, a two-concert series with music from Gounod, Beethoven, Rossini, Saint-Saëns, and Brahms, that aims to inspire hope and spark joy during troubled times.

About NUS Symphony Orchestra
The NUS Symphony Orchestra (NUSSO) is a youth orchestra comprising over 100 musicians from across the university’s different faculties, united in their love of music and will to share it with audiences.
Started in the 1920s as a chamber ensemble, NUSS was formally established in 1979 as the NUS Concert Orchestra under the directorship of Paul Abisheganaden, before being inaugurated as the NUS Symphony Orchestra under current Music Director and Resident Conductor Maestro Lim Soon Lee
NUSSO is a three-time Tan Ean Kiam (TEK) Group of the Year Award winner and through its diverse repertoire, has forged a reputation both locally and internationally. It has performed concerts in several previous NUS Arts Festivals and has also performed extensively overseas, embarking on tours and festivals around the globe.
Since 1994, Mr Lim Soon Lee has led the 100-strong NUS Symphony Orchestra through many national projects, concerts and international festivals. His involvement with classical music in NUS dates back to 1980, helping to lay the foundation of the Orchestra.
Mr Lim was awarded the Public Service Commission Scholarship to study at the Eastman School of Music with world-renowned violists Atar Arad and Francis Tursi and conductors David Effron and Donald Hunsberger.
Soon Lee previously also held positions as the Sub-Principal Violist in Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Music Director of the Singapore National Youth Orchestra and the Associate Principal of String Performance at School of the Arts.
Foo Say Ming was awarded the Public Service Commission scholarship to study at the Royal College of Music (RCM) in London. He was later accepted into the Conservatoire de Lausanne in Switzerland, studying with Pierre Amoyal, and was conferred the Virtuosite-Premier Prix avec Felicitations du Jury.
Say Ming is NUSSO’s Assistant Conductor, violinist with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO), the Head of Strings at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, and leads Re:mix, a unique chamber orchestra in Singapore. Say Ming also works with the Singapore National Youth Orchestra (SNYO), as well as various young musicians’ orchestras in Malaysia and Indonesia.
