Fung Tze Kwan

Academic Qualifications

M.Sc. in Biology, National University of Singapore

B.Sc. (Honours) in Life Sciences (Specialisation in Biology); Minor in Forensic Science, National University of Singapore

Research areas

Seed dispersal; mammal ecology; conservation science; applied ecology; ecosystem functions; nature-based solutions

Research interests

Tze Kwan's research focuses on quantifying the importance of biodiversity and ecosystem functioning as nature-based climate solutions with application for conservation and  climate policies. She is particularly interested in animal-plant interactions in relation to tropical forest restoration. Her research interests include the feeding ecology and seed dispersal role of the common palm civet (Paradoxurus musangus), as well as ecosystem functions and services in human-modified landscapes.

Biography

Tze Kwan is a research associate with nine years of experience in leading ecological research and field surveys in forest, freshwater and urban environment in Singapore. Her research interests include animal-plant interactions (seed dispersal), tropical forest restoration and biodiversity conservation. Her current work aims to understand and quantify the importance of biodiversity and ecosystem functions as nature-based climate solutions with application for conservation and climate policies. Tze Kwan is also a wildlife consultant, a member of the IUCN Small Carnivore Specialist Group, the Biodiversity Roundtable of Singapore, and the Vertebrate Study Group (Nature Society Singapore). Active in engagement with stakeholders and public outreach, Tze Kwan delivers public and research talks, and is part of the organising committee of the NUS Toddycats!, the volunteer arm of Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum.
