Synopsis

Professor Koh Lian Pin will be speaking at an Economy-focused panel discussion for the upcoming Singapore Local Conference of Youth, where he will share insights about how Singapore is building itself as a sustainability hub, and how Singapore is identifying economic opportunities. Other panelists for the session include Ms. Lau Xin Yi (Green Finance Lead, The Carbon Trust), Ms. Kia Jiehui (Marketing and Sales, Ichi Seiki) and Mr. Heng Li Seng (Founder, The Green Nudge).

This panel provides an opportunity for youths to gain an understanding of the state of Singapore’s economy, and how its people are moving forward. The session aims to connect leaders in the field with youths who are interested to discover what is in store for them now and in the near future. The panel thus invites various leaders to share some context of the state of the local and regional economy, and what young people can do to prepare ourselves for the next decade.

About the Local Conferences of Youth (LCOY)

Local Conferences of Youth (LCOY) are events endorsed by YOUNGO, the official children and youth constituency to the United Nations Framework Convention of Climate Change (UNFCCC). LCOY organisers bring the annual climate negotiations to their home countries and make sure that words are turned into action. At LCOYs, young people connect to each other, teach, learn, and organise themselves to make their voices heard to their state leaders. LCOYs form a network in which youth can connect across borders and explore ways to collaborate on a regional and global level.

Singapore Youth for Climate Action (SYCA) is now organising the inaugural Singapore Local Conference of Youth or Singapore LCOY. The focus topics are 1) International Climate Policies 2) Education 3) Economy. YOUNGO encourages local youth groups to organise LCOYs in a way that is suitable for local context. Hence, the conference aims to introduce young people to International Climate Policies and how that translates to local policies and actions, specifically for Education and Economy, and provide a platform for discussion on how young people can contribute to stronger climate commitments, especially in Singapore’s context.

The event is held online over three weekends in January 2021 – Saturdays 16, 23, and 30 January.
