NERI is privileged to have hosted Professor Peiying Hong from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) as our distinguished guest speaker for the NERI Seminar Series on January 8, 2024.

During the session, Prof. Hong presented her compelling research ideas and groundbreaking findings on the topic of "Building a resilient and sustainable water system in challenging landscapes". She eloquently shared insights from her team's research, focusing on the surveillance of microbial contaminants in wastewater, emphasizing diversity, fate, and persistence.

Notably, Prof. Hong's team has successfully developed and scaled-up an energy-efficient wastewater treatment process, generating high-quality reclaimed water. This innovative system, designed to operate off the grid as a decentralized treatment system, holds immense potential for providing safe and sustainable water reuse in water-scarce locations.

NERI extends heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Karina Gin for her role as the session chair, contributing to the success of this informative and enlightening seminar.
