Exciting Seminar on Advanced Plastics Recycling!
We were thrilled to welcome Dr. Jarmo Ropponen, Vice President in Industrial Chemistry and Dr. Antero Laitinen, Manager of Process Chemistry Development at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, to the National University of Singapore.
On December 4, 2024, Dr. Laitinen delivered an insightful seminar on "Recycling Plastics - Upgrading Plastic Pyrolysis Oil for Steam Cracker Feedstock," a pivotal topic in sustainable materials management. This seminar was a collaborative effort between the NUS Environmental Research Institute (NERI) and NUS Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, chaired by Prof. Wang Chi-Hwa.
Dr. Laitinen shared valuable insights into VTT's cutting-edge activities in the chemical recycling of plastics. A highlight of the seminar was the discussion on upgrading plastic pyrolysis oils through advanced adsorption technology. This innovative approach focuses on the removal of halogens, specifically chlorine (Cl) and bromine (Br), which can act as catalyst poisons in pyrolysis oil downstream processing (DSP).
We are grateful for the engaging discussion and the opportunity to explore these groundbreaking solutions in plastic recycling.
