NERI Seminar by Professor Joanna Mankiewicz-Boczek on 27 Mar 2024
NERI had the privilege of hosting a Seminar featuring Professor Joanna Mankiewicz-Boczek from the University of Lodz, UNESCO Chair on Ecohydrology and Applied Ecology, and the European Regional Centre for Ecohydrology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, on March 27, 2024. The Seminar, titled “Microorganisms - indispensable allies in developing ecohydrological solutions to prevention and mitigation of cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms (CyanoHAB)” shed light on the pressing environmental and health concerns posed by CyanoHAB.
Prof. Mankiewicz-Boczek's research explores the interplay between cyanobacteria and other microorganisms in the cyanosphere microbiome, leading to innovative nature-based solutions for regulating nutrient inputs and identifying suitable algicidal bacteria to combat CyanoHABs.
The shared enthusiasm for advancing scientific knowledge has brought Prof. Mankiewicz-Boczek and Prof. Karina Gin, a Principal Investigator at NERI and Professor at NUS Civil and Environmental Engineering, together in a synergistic collaboration.
We express our heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Mankiewicz-Boczek for her enlightening presentation and Prof. Gin for chairing this insightful session.
