Introduction:
Pollutant discharge from industrial wastewater beyond the permissible limits would pose major public health and environmental concerns as the majority would contain substances that are toxic, ignitable, corrosive or reactive. Major industries would have their own wastewater treatment facilities to remove the pollutants and/or recover valuable resources prior to discharge. However, there are smaller scale industries that would not be able to afford the hefty investment in pollutant control equipment. Management strategies such as land use planning by co-locating industries of similar activities in the industrial parks having the effluents treated through the centralized wastewater treatment facilities could aid in the pollution management.
This workshop will share the experiences and challenges of industrial wastewater management in Sri Lanka and Singapore, as well as innovations in the techniques and solutions for more sustainable treatment processes.
Programme:
The programme consists of presentations and a panel discussion by Singapore and Sri Lanka experts to exchange the knowledge and experience on stormwater management.
