Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health
Undergraduate Education
The school anchors two longitudinal tracks in the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine medical undergraduate curriculum: 1) Medicine & Society 2) Information Literacy, Critical Thinking and Evidence Based Medicine. The broad objectives of these tracks are to promote health and prevent disease at both the individual and community level and to critically appraise and apply scientific medical evidence.
Undergraduate medical students from Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine will apply coursework from these two tracks in a culminating Community Health Project (CHP), where groups of students will design and plan research projects in the community under the supervision of SSHSPH faculty.

The School continues to support the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in training medical undergraduates. The curriculum offered by the School aims to equip medical undergraduates with public health skills that are important in clinical practice, including social and behavioural determinants of health, information and data literacy, as well as prevention and control of diseases with national public health significance.
The training culminates in the Community Health Project, where, guided by the School’s faculty, medical students engage in community-based research that facilitates their achievement of key public health competencies. Students gain first-hand experience in critical appraisal of medical research, research design and data analysis, research ethics, and effective teamwork.
In addition, several workshops have been conducted for medical students to further their knowledge about design, monitoring and evaluation of community health programmes.
