Transition to Higher Education (T.H.E.) Programme

For many students, higher education can be a very new and daunting experience.

To help you gain a headstart on your NUS journey, a Transition to Higher Education (T.H.E.) programme has been specially curated. The programme intentionally covers different facets of higher education important for first-year students to be acquainted with.

Please note that courses marked with an asterisk (*) are compulsory.

RC1000A A Culture of Respect and Consent*

Mode: Online and Physical Workshop
Time: 3 Hours

This course seeks to raise awareness and educate students on the NUS community standards of a safe, inclusive, and respectful campus for research, teaching, learning and living among a diversity of cultures; relevant laws and regulations; avenues of social support and psychological help; as well as meaningful and supportive conversations.

All new and incoming students into NUS will be required to complete RC1000A within the stipulated deadline.

SE1000 Student Essentials*

Mode: Online, Asynchronous
Time: 2 Hours

This course helps students to appreciate the importance of maintaining academic integrity and research ethics in their areas of study and research. Students will also develop a deeper understanding of best practices in academia, and the support systems available at NUS to uphold these standards.

All new and incoming students into NUS will be required to complete SE1000 within two weeks after completion of NUS Registration (Part One).

THE1003A Navigating Your Wellbeing at NUS

Mode: Online, Asynchronous
Time: 1 Hour

This course seeks to facilitate students’ transition from pre-university to university. It is designed to raise students' awareness of their emotions and well-being, enabling them to self-regulate their learning and priorities for a successful and fulfilling university experience. It also aims to help students recognise when and how they may seek support as they pursue their university goals.

THE1003B – Appreciating Your Resilience at NUS

Mode: Online, Asynchronous
Time: 1 Hour

This course aims to help students to understand what resilience means to them as they adapt to university’s challenges, manage stress, and emerge stronger. It also encourages students to create their personal resilience plans as they navigate university education. Students will also reflect on resources and tools for building resilience as they pursue their university journey.

THE1004 Learning to Learn

Mode: Online, Asynchronous
Time: 2 Hours

This course is specifically created for first-year students and presents a research-based approach to learning better. By exploring the science of learning, students will discover practical methods to improve their learning inside and outside of the classroom. By adopting a Holistic Learning Framework, students will develop a repertoire of learning techniques, combat procrastination, set effective goals and become strategic and effective learners.

THE1005 Guide to Use of Generative AI Tools

Mode: Online, Asynchronous
Time: 1.5 Hours

This course enhances students’ clarity on how they can make appropriate use of generative AI tools in their learning. Through case scenarios, students observe how they can integrate AI-generated output into their assignments with appropriate acknowledgement. Students will also be informed about the affordances and limitations of generative AI tools for learning.
