You can show your support in the form of securities including shares, unit trusts and bonds. These securities shall be readily tradable in Singapore or Foreign Exchange, or convertible to cash.

The value of the securities will be based on the price of the same type of securities in the open market, at the last transaction of such securities on the date when the legal title is transferred to the University, and the securities are available for trading.

Some gifts of real estate may be sold to release their value in order to fulfil the purpose of the gift. Others may be preserved as valuable additions to the University’s landholdings.

Honorary gifts are a meaningful way to pay tribute to a living person. You can choose to honour a special occasion or achievement, or merely acknowledge the honouree’s importance in your life.

Memorial Gifts are a special way to honour a friend or loved one who has passed away. Your gift will ensure a legacy for the deceased that can impact the future.

Leave your legacy. Make a planned gift that will impact future generations. You can support the University as a whole or the aspect of University life which you prefer.

Here are three of the most common types of planned gifts:

Charitable Bequest

A charitable bequest can take many forms so you have considerable flexibility. You remain in complete control of the bequest process and can change any bequest provision during your lifetime.

You can leave a specific asset, sum of money, percentage of your estate or what remains of your estate after you have provided for other beneficiaries.

You can also designate how you want your bequest to be used or leave it unrestricted so that NUS may direct the funds to where it is most needed at the time.

Gift of CPF Monies

Nominate NUS as a beneficiary of your CPF monies. To find out more, visit http://www.cpf.gov.sg

Gift of Insurance Policies

You can designate NUS as the beneficiary of your insurance policy when the policy is no longer important to your family’s financial security. Alternatively, you can purchase an insurance policy and name NUS both the owner and the beneficiary.

If you have any questions on how to make a planned gift to NUS, please email NUS Legacy Giving or

The UK Fund for Charities’ International Programme aims to assist charitable organisations outside the United Kingdom that have UK supporters and to make donating to non-UK charities as simple as possible for UK donors. The UK Fund for Charities is incorporated as a Registered Charity in 2003.

UK taxpayers, regardless of residency or nationality, can make donations to the UK Fund under Gift Aid. Under UK tax law, charities can increase a donation’s value through a UK Government approved plan called ‘Gift Aid’ meaning that a UK registered charity can recover the basic rate tax that a UK tax payer has paid on his/her donation.

In addition, higher rate taxpayers should include all Gift Aided donations on their Self Assessment tax return in order to receive any tax relief due or they can donate this tax relief too.

Benefits of Giving

As a donor to NUS, you can enjoy tax benefits, have your gift matched by the Singapore government and receive naming opportunities.

Tax Benefits

If you are a Singapore tax resident, your gift to NUS made during the tax year (e.g. 1 January to 31 December 2023) is eligible for a tax deduction that is 2.5 times the gift value.

When the tax deduction for the donation is more than your taxable income (for both individuals and companies) for the year, the donor is allowed to carry forward the unutilised deductions for a maximum of 5 years.

For example, a donation made in 2011, and allowed for deduction in YA 2012, will be allowed to be carried forward (if tax deduction for the donation exceeds the income for 2011) up to YA 2017.

Donors (companies) must satisfy the shareholding test as defined in the Income Tax Act of Singapore.

Naming Opportunities

To recognise the generosity of our donors, NUS offers naming opportunities. You can make a gift to honour individuals such as mentors or loved ones, or corporations or foundations.

Recognition

Your contribution may be acknowledged by the NUS community through our internal publications and website.
