Meeting with MOE & Prof Geoffrey Cohen (Stanford)

ALSET members had the pleasure to meet with representatives from the Ministry of Education (MOE) and Prof Geoffrey Cohen, from Stanford University, on 18 November 2019. Prof Cohen is a recognised expert in psychological interventions and he offered some precious insights from his research to improve education. One of the key takeaways can be summed up as the 3 T's for successful interventions to help students:

  • Targeting (you want to target the students who really need support);
  • Timing (the right timing matters more than the dosage: inform students early, before their confidence got challenged by grades or poor social experience);
  • Tailoring (convey the right message, focus on the kind of support the students need).
