With the rising prominence of Asian nations, the rapid industrialization, urbanization and cultural development of Asia have created new possibilities and spaces for the flourishing of Asian cities in the context of modernity. The result is a profound impact on the way we imagine and experience Asian communities everywhere. But in a homogenizing world of globalized values and ideas, how does a city remain distinctively Asian?

The pieces represented in The Hive exhibit the nature of Asian cities as distinctive communities with a common value, an intangible we call “Asian”. The Hive symbolises the everyday interactions of its members within the swarming complexity of city life. At the same time The Hive represents nation and the development and centralization of Asian cityscapes.

Through music, The Hive tells stories of how people continually experience Asian cities, their shared challenges and aspirations, and portrays the dialectics between tradition and modernity.

Formed in 1985 to explore the compelling and fluid beauty of electronic music, the group’s original and innovative music runs the gamut from experimental electronic music to synthesiser pop; from ambient and underground rave to trance, always breaking barriers in pursuit of tomorrow’s music.
