He vividly recalls the moment when his mentee grasped the relationship between plate tectonics, physics, and geography.
“Plate tectonics is a difficult subject for many Geography students because of the enormity of scale. I was explaining to my mentee how plate tectonics relates to what he had already learnt in science – how convection currents in the earth’s magma drive plate movement, and how the resultant compression at the edges stores and then releases elastic potential energy in the form of earthquakes. The eureka moment lit up his person, which was immensely gratifying.”
Malcolm believes that fostering a curiosity of the mind and a love for learning is even more important than providing answers. By helping children and youth ignite their innate desire to learn and understand, he hopes to inspire a new generation of youth.
