Required approvals and clearances to obtain before starting your study

 

Institutional & Regulatory Approvals

Includes your supervisor’s approval or endorsement to conduct the HBR (if required by your institution), Health Sciences Authority (HSA) notification on use of any unregistered Clinical Research Materials (including experimental medical devices) and any biosafety permits such as permits to import biological agents and toxins and cadavers under the Biological and Toxins Act and Infectious Diseases Act respectively.

Ethics approval or exemption from ethics approval

Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval or exemption from approval is required to conduct HBRA studies. For more information, please click here.

Special approvals for Restricted HBR as applicable

Research involving human eggs, human embryos and human-animal cell combination could be classified as prohibited or restricted (but permitted), in which case special approvals apply. For more information, please click here.

For NUS Studies: NUS TOC Tissue Registration and Clearance

The Tissue Registration Initial Form should be completed before collection and intended storage of Tissues.
If there has been no approval or exemption from approval from NUS-IRB, DSRB, CIRB, NHG Tissue Compliance Committee or SingHealth tissue governance committee for the receipt of tissues from a third party by an NUS researcher, please seek TOC's clearance.
