Professor Venkitaraman is a globally recognised leader in cancer biology and genome integrity, with contributions that have transformed our understanding of inherited cancer susceptibility and early carcinogenesis. He has pioneered new technologies for drug discovery.

- Uncovering the biological functions of the inherited breast cancer suppressor BRCA2 and related caretaker genes, establishing the scientific foundations for targeted cancer therapies.
- Elucidating essential mechanisms governing DNA repair, replication, and chromosome segregation that safeguard genome stability against decay.
- Connecting the architecture of genome maintenance to non-canonical drivers of carcinogenesis, including metabolic and environmental stresses, to enable early interception.
- Pioneering innovative technologies for target discovery and early drug development, leading to the serial creation of university spin-out companies, including PhoreMost, as co-founder.
