As Dean of Medical Education at Duke University from 1987 to 1992, I found it difficult to improve medical student learning in an established institution. Thus, I was thrilled when I was offered the opportunity to be part of the founding of Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School and be involved in the development and application of TeamLEAD, the Duke-NUS adaptation of team-based learning, to medical education. It has been an honour and a pleasure to direct the Body and Disease course, to work with my outstanding Singaporean colleagues, and to participate in the growth and development of the wonderful young people who will add so much to Singapore medicine over the years.
