- In these capacities, he contributed to the shaping of various policies including those concerning:
- Law enforcement and community policing
- The legal landscape, including positioning Singapore as an arbitration venue of choice and as a vibrant legal services hub
- Enhancing Singapore's reputation in the international community and creating greater space for Singapore to be a relevant player in international diplomacy
- Had oversight of the two cases before international tribunals – the Pedra Branca case and the Land Reclamation case
- Helped promote NUS and its Faculty of Law, particularly in the area of international law, as well as offers invaluable counsel as Chair of NUS Law's Advisory Council, and Patron and Chairman of the International Advisory Panel of the NUS Centre for International Law, which has now become one of Asia's most influential international law research centres
