The REx STEER is an initiative helmed by the Undergraduate Education Team at the Office of the Provost in 2023, with the aim of providing students with research oriented field trips that are interactive and engaging, addressing the social, economic political, geographical and cultural nuances of the rich historical tapestry of countries mainly in Southeast Asia. The REx STEER trips are typically held for 12 days comprising of interdisciplinary research learning.
The first trip was held in Vietnam in 2023, led by Dr Hoang Truong Giang where undergraduate students embarked on a research experience of industrial visits on environmental sustainability, village visits with hands on activities that provides exposure to cultural nuances and an ethnographical study of communities and their practices. The REx STEER trips are held typically for twice or thrice a year in the months of July, November and December.
