NUS has been ranked in the global Top 25 in nine out of 10 subject categories in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025 by Subject. These are Arts and Humanities, Business and Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, Law, Life Sciences, Medical and Health, Physical Sciences and Social Sciences. Impact
On the milestone occasion of its 20th anniversary, Duke-NUS heralded an unprecedented philanthropic achievement, securing more than S$30 million in gifts and pledges towards student financial aid and advancing cutting-edge research. The gala, held on 11 January, brought together more than 300 distinguished guests to celebrate and support the School’s advancements in medical research and education.

Faye Ng Yu Ci, an alumna of the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, has earned a coveted spot in the prestigious Schwarzman Scholars graduate fellowship programme. She will also fly the Singapore flag high as the only Singaporean joining the 10th cohort comprising 150 scholars representing 38 countries and 105 universities from around the world.

Reactions such as unease and uncertainty are common whenever new respiratory outbreaks occur, especially when they involve pathogens that are less well known outside healthcare and research communities. This is partly because of the Covid-19 imprint on our psyche. Prof Hsu Li Yang, Director at the Asia Centre for Health Security and Vice-Dean of Global Health at Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health at NUS, comments that while social media amplifies a perception of imminent danger, the real challenge lies in fostering science literacy and measured vigilance.
Meta announced in January this year that it will replace third-party fact checkers in the US with a community notes system and will wait to see how the change unfolds before making a decision about transitioning in other regions. Assoc Prof Taberez Ahmed Neyazi from the Department of Communications and New Media at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at NUS says that Meta’s decision to dismantle its third-party fact-checking programme is more than a policy shift; it is a global abdication of its ethical responsibility with catastrophic implications for democracies worldwide.
