Appointed as the Chief Information Technology Officer (CITO) of NUS IT on 1 November 2020, Ms Tan Shui-Min has been a driving force in transforming NUS’s IT landscape. She joined NUS IT as Director (Applications) in 2016, advanced to Deputy CITO in 2020, and subsequently assumed her current role. Ms Tan has been instrumental in the development, delivery, and support of IT solutions across key business domains, including education, research, and administration. Her leadership has been pivotal in steering strategic planning, daily operations, and the implementation of comprehensive IT policies.
Ms Tan’s tenure is marked by a significant evolution in IT practices at NUS. She spearheaded the adoption of Agile methodologies within the team and enhanced the enterprise architecture to support dynamic and evolutionary development. Her foresight led to the delivery of uNivUS, a super-app adopted across the University, "uniting NUS individuals" from both the past and present. She envisages a "Borderless University powered by Infinite Technology", leveraging cutting-edge technology to advance NUS's digital future.
Under her stewardship, the department earned prestigious accolades, including The Gartner Eye on Innovation Awards for Education 2022 and the Times Higher Education Awards Asia 2024. Ms Tan's outstanding contributions have been recognised with the Digital Leader of the Year Award at GovInsider's Festival of Innovation Awards 2024 and the CITO of the Year at the Women in Tech Summit 2023. She was also honoured with the Singapore Computer Society Fellowship in 2022 and featured on the Singapore 100 Women in Tech List 2021.
Ms Tan is known for her expertise in managing multimillion-dollar projects with global impact. Prior to joining NUS, she held senior IT positions at Synapxe and Neptune Orient Lines, where she played a leading role in strategic technology-planning and cost reduction initiatives.
Ms Tan holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a Master of Science in Management of Technology from NUS, where she graduated as the top student in her Master’s programme and received the Best Graduate 2003 accolade from NUS Business School.
