What is it like to live with dementia?

LILY explores the connection between music and dementia, initiated by vocal pedagogue and soprano Dr Wong Su Sun (who plays the title role of Lily), in collaboration with composer Assoc Prof Chen Zhangyi.

The evening features the world premiere of the full opera Losing Lily, with libretto by playwright Jean Tay. Directed by theatre veteran Nora Samosir, the opera unfolds a poignant story of the human mind – from brushes with forgetfulness in early onset dementia, to heart-wrenching moments of not recognising loved ones. Along with Dr Wong (Lily), tenor Jonathan Charles Tay plays her son and mezzo-soprano Cindy Honanta appears as the caregiver. The trio of singers will be supported by musicians from the YST Conservatory, led by conductor Chong Wailun.

The performance will also include a screening of the docu-opera A Day A Lily, written and produced by Jack Lin and The Floating Folks. The narrative of a fictional opera singer who begins to lose her mind is interlaced with interviews from persons living with dementia, medical experts, social workers, carers, as well as the creatives' process of making the docu-opera.

Join us for this special premiere and screening, offering a rich exploration of life with this condition.

This event is supported by National Arts Council and the Tote Board Arts Fund.
