The New AI Tools in Our Lives

Since the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, Generative AI is now all the rage, with both doomsaying and optimism. But what is it? What is it good (or not) for the workplace, and how might it be bad (or not) for education? It’s time for a chat!

Join Associate Professor Loy Hui Chieh (Arts and Social Sciences ’98) for a chat to discuss the benefits and drawbacks of utilising generative AI. Explore its potential impact on the workforce – including whether it may displace jobs – as well as its implications on the education sector.

Event Details

Generative AI has become incredibly popular since ChatGPT's launch in November 2022. But what exactly is Generative AI, and what implications does this technology have for the workplace?

Assoc Prof Loy Hui Chieh (Arts and Social Sciences ’98)
Vice Dean (Academic Affairs), NUS College
Associate Professor, Philosophy, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences

Assoc Prof Loy Hui Chieh is an alumnus of NUS and is currently with the Philosophy Department at NUS, and Vice Dean (Academic Affairs) of NUS College. He chairs the NUS University Policy Workgroup for AI in Teaching and Learning, charged with recommending policies and actions to the University in response to evolving threats and opportunities presented by AI. But beyond that, Assoc Prof Loy is a ‘tech geek’ at heart who loves exploring how new information and computational technologies can be used in education and beyond, while also being worried, as a philosopher, about the problems they can cause.
