Today’s workplaces are increasingly diverse, bringing together individuals with different cultural backgrounds, identities, perspectives, and communication styles. The ability to work effectively across differences is a key professional skill that enables stronger collaboration, innovation, and workplace success.

This interactive workshop will help participants develop the awareness, mindset, and practical skills needed to navigate diverse work environments with confidence and professionalism. Through discussions, real-world scenarios, and practical exercises, students will gain a deeper understanding of how culture and diversity influence workplace interactions and learn strategies for fostering inclusive and respectful working relationships.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

• Recognise how culture, identity, and diversity can shape workplace interactions and expectations
• Identify common communication and collaboration challenges that arise in diverse teams
• Practise inclusive behaviours that foster trust, teamwork, and a sense of belonging
• Navigate misunderstandings and cultural differences with empathy, professionalism, and respect
• Build greater cultural awareness and adaptability in multicultural work environments

Ryan Ang
Career Advisor, Postgraduate Career Advisory Team
Centre for Future-ready Graduates (CFG), NUS

Ryan has close to 15 years of working experience in the public sector, specializing in Trade Policy Promotion and Business Development, and helping corporations and SMEs expand their business capabilities and footprint overseas. He was also seconded to the World Bank office in Singapore for 2 years, opening up access to WB projects for Singapore-based consultants in diverse developing countries. He is also a NUS alumnus from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, majoring in Political Science. Since joining CFG in 2013, Ryan has served as a Career Advisor for Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Faculty of Science and School of Computing. He currently heads the Postgraduate Career Advisory team of six, equipping Master and PhD students with career readiness skills through a variety of career advisory, workshops and programmes.
