Insights into Caregiving Transitions: Towards positive caregiving experiences and resilience

The current caregiving discourse in Singapore has largely focused on negative outcomes such as caregiving burden and stressors while negating more positive aspects of caregiving in terms of life satisfaction, meaning and self-esteem.

This talk draws on studies of longitudinal transitions of caregivers to unpack the key contexts and mechanisms that contribute to positive caregiving trajectories, particularly among older women and its implications for redesigning interventions for caregivers in the community to enhance positive aspects of caregiving.

Brown bag lunch will be provided for participants onsite.

About the speaker

Ms Susana Concordo Harding is Senior Director at the International Longevity Centre Singapore, one of the four Initiatives of the Tsao Foundation. She is also the Honorary Secretary of the Board of Directors at Centre for Seniors, a non-profit social service agency that is dedicated to helping seniors remain meaningfully engaged in work and in life, as well as Honorary Secretary of the Gerontological Society of Singapore.

Her research and policy interests are ageing and gender and its intersectionality, caregiving, financial security, community resilience, active and successful ageing, long term care, empowerment, and community development.

She has spoken at several national and international conferences organised by Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) Singapore, the Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations (SCWO), Institute of Policy Studies (IPS), Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN),  ASEAN Confederation of Women’s Organisations (ACWO), HelpAge International, International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics (IAGG), Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) and others. She also co-authored articles and co-edited a book, Financial Security of Older Women: Perspectives from Southeast Asia (2018).
