Are art and science mutually opposing fields, or two skeins of the same thread? Join Nobel Laureate Professor Sir Konstantin Novoselov as he discusses the intersections between art and science, drawing on his practice in both disciplines.

Professor Novoselov works in the fields of condensed matter physics, nanotechnology and functional intelligent materials, and is known for his ground-breaking isolation of graphene, the world’s strongest, most stretchable material. A formally trained artist who has worked in the studio of Zheng Shenglong in Xiamen University, China, Professor Novoselov has collaborated with artists like Cornelia Parker, Kate Daudy and Mary Griffiths, and exhibited in the UK, Russia and Vienna.

Join us for this very special session as Professor Novoselov shares about his artistic collaborations and how he has incorporated novel subjects, approaches and materials, including graphene ink, into his art to produce novel insights. Moderating the session is Associate Professor Lonce Wyse from the Department of Communications and New Media at the NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Professor Wyse is also Director of the NUS Smart Systems Institute’s Arts and Creativity Lab, and directed the Art/Science Residency programme at NUS bringing international media artists and NUS research labs together for over a decade.
