Jobs remain one of the biggest sources of anxiety in Singapore today. Prime Minister Lawrence Wong addressed this in his National Day Rally speech, citing a global economy riven by tariffs and a technological wave reshaping careers. Assoc Prof Lin Weiqiang from the Department of Geography at the NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences remarks that Singapore’s workforce depends on businesses’ faith in the ingenuity of its people. Over-reliance on AI not only has an adverse effect on companies’ hiring needs, it also leaves future generations underprepared for leadership, creating a vicious cycle.
