NUS Alumni Sing-Along Christmas Celebration

Since 2015, Christmas has always been the highlight of the NUS Alumni Sing-Along’s (ASA) events each year.

This year, NUS ASA celebrated Christmas on 1 December 2023 at the Chill-Lab, NUS Society (NUSS), Kent Ridge Guild House. The Silverstones, an NUSS band, provided the entertainment and accompanied ASA members and guests who belted out evergreens and Christmas songs during open mic. Professional dancers Mr Lim Chee Kiang (Engineering ’83) and guest performer Ms Jaslin Lim danced gracefully and flawlessly to the songs ‘Pink Lemonade’ and ‘Happy Christmas’, mesmerising everyone present. Although it was only the first day of the Christmas month, the mood and spirit of Christmas caught on very quickly when attendees did the conga dance to the song ‘Gimme Hope Jo’anna.’ Throughout the celebration, everyone danced and sang, and of course, helped themselves to the delectable Christmas hi-tea buffet and ate heartily.

ASA thanks The Silverstones, performers, members and guests for making it such an unforgettable Christmas Celebration. Special thanks to Mr Clarence Lim Soo Hwee (Arts and Social Sciences ’78) and Mr Su Allin (Engineering ’73) who helped to organise the event.

“Last Lecture” – What’s our Why?

Alumni and staff gathered last Friday, 24 November 2023, for an evening of wine, cheese, dinner and camaraderie, followed by a thought-provoking Last Lecture on “What’s our Why” delivered by Mr How Ti Hwei (Science ’95). Ti Hwei shared his views on the many areas we can pursue amidst the changing landscapes of diseases and therapeutics, the evolving healthcare ecosystem in Singapore, and the uncertain geopolitics of the world.

CDE Alumni Mentorship Programme

The "Alumni Mentorship Programme: Batch 10" conducted its Welcome and Programme Briefing on 23 November 2023 through Zoom.

The Office of Alumni Relations runs this initiative to connect alumni from the College of Design and Engineering (CDE) with undergraduates and provide unique opportunities for students to learn about work and life outside the university from our alumni. The CDE Alumni Mentorship Programme is an important initiative that aims to establish a strong and dynamic relationship between alumni and the student community.

During the Welcome Briefing, Associate Professor Kua Harn Wei (Vice Dean, Alumni Relations) shared that the programme aims to maintain a strong connection between alumni and the faculty. It provides alumni with a platform to contribute meaningfully to the development of undergraduates. It fosters a close-knit Alumni-Students community, facilitating relationship-building. Additionally, through the programme, students benefit by being able to tap on relevant, professional, and up-to-date industry advice. There has been a significant increase in participation from both sides, indicating the programme's high value. This programme batch has 28 new mentors and 94 active mentees.
