CPE Talk on Governance and Business Integrity

22 May

NUSBSA (NUS Business School Alumni Association) Accountancy Wing held their 7th Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) Talk on 22 May at Great Eastern Centre.

The topic was on Governance and Business Integrity, and was delivered by Associate Professor Lawrence Loh ('84) from NUS Business School, who is also the Director for the Centre for Governance, Institutions & Organisations(CGIO). Assoc Prof Loh leads the Singaporean Governance and Transparency Index project and the ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard project. He also oversees the joint Business Integrity and Sustainability Reporting initiatives with the ASEAN CSR network. He has published in international journals and is a regular commentator for the global and Singapore media on corporate governance and sustainability.

60 attendees attended the Talk, which explored the Venn diagram of ethics, law and morality, along with provocative questions like “If it’s not illegal, is it then legal?” and “Is it ok if we do something good for the company without personal gain?”, just to name a few. Assoc Prof Loh also took the attendees through five different approaches to ethical dilemmas, bringing them to life through an interactive exercise with the audience and it was intriguing to see how each audience group had a new point of view to offer.

NUSBSA Director as well as the Head of the CPE Talk Committee of NUSBSA Accountancy Wing, Mr Edward Ta ('87), and NUSBSA Director Mr Rix Chan ('92) and his associates from Great Eastern gave welcome remarks.
