End-of-Year Networking Drinks in Melbourne for NUS/NTU/SMU Alumni

The networking event was held in collaboration with Singapore Global Network on 29 November 2019. The evening started straight after work on a Friday, and more than 50 alumni from three Singapore universities caught up in a relaxed environment ahead of the Christmas break. The NUS Alumni Melbourne Chapter had a really good turn-out with 26 alumni at the event.

The event brought together alumni from different professional backgrounds and cohorts in Melbourne (from just two weeks ago to several decades!), all with the common experience of having lived and studied in Singapore. The evening invoked a wave of nostalgia as alumni discussed news from home and the usual discussion of where is the best local restaurants. Many lingered past the event session and ended up at supper together.

Thanks to the alumni presidents/representatives from NTU Australia (Mr Abhimanyu Bhola), SMU (Mr Yangxiang Lim) and Regional Director Singapore Global Network (Ms Leanne Lim) for partnering and making this possible!

Dialogue session with young alumni
The NUS Chinese Studies Alumni Association organised a dialogue session on 8 November, for young alumni from the NUS faculty of Arts and Social Sciences class of 2014 to share with current students on the multiple career pathways available ahead. The candid and insightful session attracted about 20 undergraduates who heard the perspectives and experiences of alumni in the media industry, in academia and enterprises.

Besides sharing on how they landed their first jobs, and moving on to pursue their careers and passion, the alumni also shared on relevant topics such as managing people dynamics and achieving work-life harmony. The discussion panel include alumni Ms Amarylis Chen Yanxi from Amazon; Ms He Yingshu from Yale-NUS; Ms Sow Lei Wei and Ms Zhang Jingyu from Mediacorp; and Moderator Ms Celeste Chew.

“Willkommen zum Oktoberfest”

The Munich Oktoberfest lays claim to being the world’s largest folk festival (it’s not just about drinking bier), but not everyone is lucky enough to celebrate it in Germany! So, through the Global Alumni Network Office (GANO), the NUS Business School brought the festival to its alumni and association members. The sold-out event, held at Brozeit, Vivocity, on 24 October, saw over 130 alumni, association members, faculty and administrators reconnecting, and feasting, over the obligatory Bavarian Pork Knuckle, Schnitzel, Bratwurst and many more!
