Philosophy Party 2022

01 July

On 1 July, NUS Philosophy Department held its first Philosophy Party since the COVID-19 pandemic struck. The party provided a chance for over 90 faculty members, recent graduates from the Classes of 2019, 2020 and 2021, and alumni to connect over dinner, games and great conversations.

Other than the Philosophy Party, the Department also organised another dinner on 1 August to thank alumni for their contribution back to their alma mater. As part of the PH4550 module on Internship: Philosophy for Teaching, the Department also partners pre-tertiary institutions in Singapore to provide undergraduates a teaching internship experience. Many stakeholders are Philosophy alumni, who continue to provide invaluable guidance and mentorship to undergraduates.

Appreciation lunch with Sociology Class of '69

On 27 June, representatives from the Sociology Class of 1969 joined bursary recipients of the NUS Sociology Alumni Bursary Fund, as well as representatives from the Student Society for lunch at Prive Grill @ The University Club, which is located at Shaw Foundation Alumni House. The fund aims to benefit two students every year, and hopes to invite the larger Sociology and Anthropology family to contribute to the fund, so that it can continue to grow and reach out to more financially needy students majoring in this field. The lunch was a fruitful session as different cohorts shared their experiences, especially with the pioneer Class of ‘69 sharing their invaluable insights. The department would like to extend their deepest appreciation to donors who have consistently provided unwavering support to the department and their students.

NUS Society of Social Work Students’ Graduation Night 2022

On 4 June 2022, NUS Society of Social Work Students (SSWS) organised a Graduation Night to celebrate the Class of 2022 with the gracious support of the Office of Alumni Relations (OAR). Held at a cosy cafe, it was a fun-filled night with games and food. The graduands spent the night reminiscing about their journey in NUS, forging yet another memory of being together at the end of their undergraduate years. A customised commemorative cake was also prepared to mark the special occasion. Finally, the night ended with the premiering of the Graduation Video produced by the SSWS committee, documenting words of wisdom and reflections of some graduands and lecturers from the Department of Social Work. SSWS thanks OAR for the gracious sponsorship. Happy Graduation to all fellow graduands!
