As the modern age relentlessly drives us forward, some of us revel in the fast paced hypnotic beats (Trapkus’ Trio for 3 Violins, Sounds II) whilst others look for serenity and comfort in the familiar form of repetition and layers (Pachelbel’s Canon, Davidson’s Message Ground). Perhaps, we are all just looking for the same head space, the zone where we can find peace.
Some look into the past, seeking a sense of belonging and purpose as these very cultural relics are eroded by the march of time (Bartok’s Duos for Two Violins, Hu Xiao-Ou’s Mo Xie). Others, regardless of time and age, are just suckers for love. Some compose to commemorate it (Elgar’s Salut d’Amour – written as a gift to his wife-to-be), others write out of grief and heartbreak (Barber’s Adagio, Rachmaninoff’s Romance)
Tonight, we present this diverse collage of music, a sketch of the interruptions that the modern mind endures, consumed by emotions and time.
Featuring talented youth musicians Koh Cheng Jin, Wu Jing Ting, Mervin Wong, Toh Ming Min, Kenneth Lee and more, Highly Strung 4 is a part of T’ang Quartet’s The Ensemble Dimension Project, where young musicians undergo radical and refreshed artistic growth.
