MOVEABLE FEASTS

14 – 29 Mar | 10am – 10pm
University Cultural Centre (UCC)

Although the phrase originated to mark holy days in the liturgical calendar, 'Moveable Feast' has been adopted into the language as a metaphor for things which change over time.

Moveable Feasts is a unique interactive exhibition of Singaporean food. The focus of the photography exhibition is not merely Singapore food porn but also the changes taking place behind the creation of food. Well-known hawkers and chefs are unable to pass the legacy of these prized dishes to their next generation. A new generation not necessarily Singaporean are acquiring the skills to produce these dishes and even the food sources, the wet markets are slowly being threatened by closure due to high rents and also the lack of interest from the next generation of stallholders and shoppers.

How will our relationship with Singaporean specialties like Chili Crab, Fried Hokkien Mee, Fried Carrot Cake and Chicken Rice be when the origins and originators of the food change? What will be the future of Singaporean food then?
