In just one evening, the MBBS Class of 2000 raised S$150,000 to support students at NUS Medicine in perpetuity.

Friendship, memories and a shared commitment to give back came together on 30 August 2025, as the NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine’s (NUS Medicine) Class of 2000 marked their 25th anniversary with a reunion dinner at Sheraton Towers.

Gathering under the theme “Our Legacy Begins!”, the Class turned their milestone celebration into a legacy of hope for their juniors in NUS Medicine.

Since 2020, the Class has faithfully come together every year to support bursaries for financially needy students. This milestone year, however, they set their sights on something bigger.

Led by class champions Dr Darren Chua, Dr Timothy Teoh, Dr Rachael Teo and Dr Jasmine Mohd, the enthusiastic alumni rallied together to establish the MBBS Class of 2000 Bursary, an endowed fund that will support medical students for generations to come.

The evening was full of heartwarming moments. A nostalgic photo montage of the Class’s campus days rekindled fond memories, while a heartfelt thank-you video from past bursary recipients reminded everyone how their giving had already touched so many lives. These moving moments set the stage for the night’s highlight: a live fundraising campaign.

The fundraising campaign for the Bursary was launched on NUS Giving’s Give.NUS platform, which allowed alumni to make contributions directly from their phones in just a few taps.

Featuring a live progress bar, the Give.NUS campaign page allowed guests to watch with bated breath as each gift nudged the bar closer to the target. The atmosphere was electric—with every new contribution, the room burst into cheers, laughter and a growing sense of purpose.

In just 20 minutes, the campaign had raised S$100,000. The Class went on to surpass their fundraising target of S$150,000 in the next 15 hours, with gifts still steadily coming in even after the goal was met.

With this generous amount raised, the Bursary will be able to support financially needy students at NUS Medicine in perpetuity, empowering future generations of medical professionals to serve our communities with passion and skill. What began as one class’s commitment to annual giving has become an incredible legacy of lasting impact.

The MBBS Class of 2000 has shown how alumni, united by friendship and purpose, can take celebrations to the next level. When we come together with a shared vision to make a difference, a legacy truly begins.

You can contribute to the legacy too. Make a gift to support the MBBS Class of 2000 Bursary on our Give.NUS platform today.
