A LEGACY OF EXCELLENCE

NAMED PROFESSORSHIP

Talent is the cornerstone of a great university. As the leading university in Asia, NUS is and must continue to be a magnet, attracting the best talent from around the world. This allows us to fulfil our mission to be a great university.

From our beginnings in 1905 as the Straits and Federated Malay States Government Medical School, we have grown into a highly respected global university. We are a very special institution, founded by the community, for the community. We will never take our eyes off our goals: to educate, inspire and transform our students and the world we live in. We have been blessed with the support of a community of individuals who share our vision and who have come forward to help cultivate talented young minds who will go on to shape the future.

Today, NUS is grateful to benefit from 139 named professorships, shown on the following pages, which were established with the help of this community. Such generosity goes a long way towards nurturing talent to raise the bar in research and education. These professorships allow us to attract and inspire new generations eager to make an impact on the world. Through them, we are building a vital global university that pursues influential research and visionary enterprise, serving Singapore and the world.

In the words of Dr Lee Kong Chian, the first chancellor of the University of Singapore, “A university… is a home in which the human spirit can find freedom and true inspiration.” NUS warmly thanks the donors who have enabled us to make this a reality.
