Community Service L-derly Befrienders (Regular Volunteering Programme)
Distinction NUS Students' Community Service Club
L-derly Befrienders is a regular volunteering programme under NUS Students’ Community Service Club which organises weekly visits to vulnerable senior beneficiaries living in one-room flats under the Thong Kheng Senior Activity Centre. Volunteers in this programme assist the elderly in their household chores and engage them in activities such as festive celebrations, field trips and bonding games with other fellow residents. Over 140 NUS students are involved in this programme, serving a total of 16 beneficiaries.
Community Service Project Legal Awareness for Youth (PLAY)
Distinction NUS Law
An annual project under NUS Law where volunteers would plan and conduct legal workshops for vulnerable and “at-risk” secondary school students. The workshops focus on legal topics such as drugs and addictions, harassment, and cyberbullying. Despite the covid restrictions, students were able to adapt their programme to achieve the same level of engagement via Zoom. Around 100 students from four secondary schools benefited from this project.

Merit NUS Students' Community Service Club
Project RAISE aims to raise awareness for and empower the blind and visually impaired community. Some of the activities that they organised include a workshop conducted by Guide Dogs Singapore for NUS students to learn more about visual impairments, and an internal roadshow consisting of carnival games and selling of merchandises made by the visually impaired. Students raised a total of S$1,000 to fund rehabilitative programmes by Guide Dogs Singapore.
Community Service Project WAO (Project We Are One)
Distinction NUS Students' Community Service Club
Project WAO is an annual project under NUS Students’ Community Service Club which aims to raise awareness about the migrant workers’ scene among NUS students by providing opportunities for NUS students to interact with migrant workers. Through their planned activities such as the English Language conversational workshop and photography competition, the migrant workers were empowered with useful skills to showcase their individuality and retell their stories.
Community Service Sail SG Challenge
Merit NUS Sailing
Through planning and achieving the first full circumnavigation of mainland Singapore using only wind and sail power for 22 hours, NUS sailors raise donations for KKH Health Fund for young children who are chronically sick. Comprising four NUS Medicine students – Loh Jia Yi, Matthew Scott Lau, Chantelle Chen and Wong Riji, as well as Shaun Ho (Business Administration and Law and Amanda Koh (Economics), the team has roped in $5,695. Students successfully raised public awareness of the fund through social media marketing and conventional news platforms.
Community Service Students for Migrants - Law & You
Merit NUS Law
A project under NUS Law Pro Bono Group, students conducted monthly legal education workshops for migrant domestic workers to raise their awareness of their legal rights. The team initiated a new collaboration with Ministry of Manpower (MOM) where they proposed recommendations on how MOM can reach out and communicate effectively to migrant domestic workers.
