At NUS Centre for Future-ready Graduates (CFG), we believe that the future is forged at the intersection of academia and industry. We partner closely in varied ways with industry, and are always seeking new ways to do so, building a vibrant ecosystem of collaboration where innovation thrives.  In doing so, we develop NUS students to be job market-ready graduates poised to become the leaders and changemakers of tomorrow, while working with industry partners to enhance their brand visibility among NUS students, build strong talent pipelines, and support industry development.

Building real-world work experience

CFG actively encourages NUS students to accumulate meaningful work experience to build critical life and career skills even as they pursue their studies. To make available maximum options and flexibility, we endeavour to provide internship opportunities of diverse formats, duration, and geographies. CFG internship programmes include Vacation Internship Programme and NUS Global Internship Programme. We also run the NUS TalentConnect and NUS Internship-As-A-Service portals that all students can use to access internships as well as full-time roles. NUS now facilitates more than 10,000 student internships each year.

Outside of internships, students wishing to build work experience via part-time work can even access CFG’s NUS Student Work Scheme (NSWS), a holistic platform that consolidates all part-time roles conveniently located right on campus.

Bringing Industry to the Classroom

Besides empowering students to build real-world work experience, CFG enhances students’ exposure to industry by actively bringing industry to the classroom. Our programmes and initiatives are crafted with structured involvement by industry insiders, and many industry experts join us as speakers and trainers across CFG programmes. Many also join us as mentors in CFG mentorship programmes like NUS Uplift Mentorship Programme and Power Up Mentorship Programme, sharing their personal and professional insights with student mentees.

Going beyond our shores

Our collaboration with industry partners extends beyond Singapore’s shores. Via the Global Industry Insights (GII) course, CFG brings students overseas on physical study trips to various fast-growing economies in Southeast Asia, China, and India. Industry partners host our students for company visits and join students in industry networking events. Along with cultural appreciation activities, students build their global perspectives and are introduced to the exciting global career opportunities and pathways available.

We also run regular Global Careers Talks, inviting industry experts to share with students about the professional landscape as well as opportunities that exist in emerging, fast-growing regions around the world.

Bridging Industry and Students

CFG continues to be a nexus bridging industry and NUS students. Students are provided ample opportunities throughout their time with the university to engage and network with industry partners. Through these, students deepen their understanding of sectors and career pathways, enhance their professional networks, hone important relational skill sets, and cultivate opportunities for job offers.

We run several career fairs throughout the year that see active employer participation. Other than campus-wide career fairs all NUS students can attend, CFG also organises career fairs targeted at specific student groups or for students in particular faculties and schools.

Outside of career fairs, we work closely with employers to mount more than 700 recruitment events, talks and company visits throughout the year. Depending on their interests, stage of career preparation, and career aspirations, students have the agency to select suitable employer events to attend to enrich their career journey.

What our industry partners say

The arena to secure good talent from IHLs is highly competitive, especially attracting those possessing a multitude of skills that allow them to navigate the complexities of our work here at PwC. We therefore appreciate how the interdisciplinary nature of education in NUS has allowed us to expand and attract talents who are aligned with our purpose of creating sustained outcomes for our clients, community and the environment. We are excited to continue building a strong partnership with NUS and enhance PwC’s brand as a choice employer among students.

Our team has collaborated with CFG to put together several events and workshops over the years. The opportunity to connect with enthusiastic students and share industry insights has been rewarding, and through some events, we have also successfully recruited interns. CFG’s commitment to facilitating meaningful interactions between students and industry practitioners is commendable, and I look forward to continuing to be a part of these impactful events in the future.

Collaborating with CFG allows us the invaluable platform to not only raise awareness about the importance of sustainable finance, but also share career opportunities, sustainable finance-related knowledge and tips needed for NUS students to enter the industry. Through partnering CFG, we hope to inspire students to join the sustainable finance industry to drive systemic changes that will produce positive social and environmental outcomes in Singapore and globally.

As a key player in the beverage landscape, it is necessary for us to build our employer brand in Thailand, Southeast Asia and beyond. Thanks to the overseas programmes offered by CFG such as Global Industry Insights and NUS Global Internship Programme, we could do just that. The collaboration also gave NUS students the opportunity to be exposed to working in a diverse setting, building their international outlook and global career agility.
